What is an End of Life Doula?

An End of Life Doula is a trained professional who provides non-judgmental, non-medical support to individuals and their partners and/or families (of origin or choice) as they navigate the final stages of life.

Our services are focused on providing emotional, physical, and spiritual care, helping you and yours feel empowered and at ease during this time.

Our role is to complement the medical care and personal assistance you are receiving and to assist with:

  • Emotional support

  • Legacy work

  • Spiritual care

We offer holistic support that respects your preferences and values.

Our Services

Emotional and Psychological Support

  • Compassionate listening and guidance through your emotional and psychological journey

  • Helping manage any anxieties or fears associated with death

  • Assistance with grief and anticipatory grief

  • Life Review

Spiritual Care

  • Guidance in honoring your spiritual or religious beliefs

  • Support in designing and performing rituals or ceremonies if desired

  • Collaboration with spiritual advisors or religious leaders as needed

Comfort and Physical Support

  • Providing comfort measures such as touch, relaxation techniques, and soothing presence

  • Assisting with breathing techniques, meditation, and calming methods

  • Collaboration with your medical team to ensure physical comfort

Practical Assistance

  • Offering non-legal support with advance directives, healthcare proxies, and other end-of-life legal documents

  • Helping to communicate wishes to family members and caregivers

  • Organizing and maintaining a Caring Bridge presence if desired

  • Legacy work (letters, videos, recordings) to preserve memories

  • Planning Memorial Services and Celebrations of Life

  • Obituary Writing

Family Support and Education

  • Assisting families in understanding the dying process

  • Educating family members on how to best support the client during the final stages

  • Providing respite care for family caregivers

Your Next Steps

    You will receive an End of Life Doula Contract outlining our services, payment terms, confidentiality, and policies. This will provide clarity on our roles and responsibilities.

  2. Intake Consultation
    We’ll schedule an in-depth consultation to discuss your needs, preferences, and any concerns. This will help us create a personalized care plan and establish clear communication for our work together.

  3. Comprehensive Assessment
    Following our consultation, we’ll work with you to complete necessary intake forms and outline specific care goals, preferences, and expectations.

  4. Support During the Process
    Once the plan is in place, we will begin providing services as agreed, ensuring that we are there to support you and your family with the highest level of care.
